About Us

Millions of people in countries around the world are facing an increased risk of malnutrition as climate change threatens their local fisheries and the health of the oceans.

The WhaleX Foundation is funding vital research into simulating whale poo to combat the climate crisis

Whale excretions “nutrient plumes” add nutrients to the surface layer of the ocean that spark the growth of phytoplankton. Phytoplankton benefit the climate as they photosynthesise taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

Phytoplankton form the base of the food chain regenerating ocean health and increasing fish stocks.

Scientific Community & Partners

The WhaleX Foundation is working with thescientific community and partners, in Artificial intelligence,  satellite monitoring and deep ocean engineering to advance the implementation of the Ocean Nourishment process in a manner that is both efficient and intrinsically safe for the environment.

We arekeen to partner with local, indigenous, environmental, international and stakeholders together with citizen scientists to advance this crucial area of ocean science.

We would love to hear from you if you would like to partner with us.

History

The WhaleX Foundation started life in 2006, as the Ocean Nourishment Foundation. It was established by the late Professor Ian S.F.Jonesand the late Dr Sid French to further the Ocean Nourishment technology, for the benefit of the planet and malnourished. The technology was developed by Professor Jones at the University of Sydney, Australia with Dr French generously funding the Foundation for many years.

The WhaleX Foundation current team stand in admiration of the work that these two amazing men contributed and feel that it was a privilege of our lives to have worked alongside them. They are much missed by us, as we know they are by many others.

In 2021, a team which included bothProfessor Jones and Dr French entered the Musk Foundation XPRIZE for carbon removal. Around this time, Dr Edwina Tanner, who had worked with Professor Jones for 20 years, recognised that the Ocean Nourishment process, closely simulates the excretions of whales and hence the team’s name “WhaleX” was born, and the Foundation renamed to the WhaleX Foundation.

The WhaleX Foundation continues the mission of advancing the concept developed by Professor Jones of restoring the climate, regenerating the global ocean and benefiting the hungry.
